Data from 2017-2020
Since 2017, RISE has focused its tutoring efforts on students at McKinley Tech. In 2017-18, RISE's tutor, Mary Lincer, helped the tenth grade achieve the highest increase on the PARCC of any high school in the city. In 2018-19, we focused our efforts on the tenth grade math students, as their teacher was unavailable most of the spring. The number of students passing the math PARCC increased by 8% from the previous year, an astounding achievement considering RISE's teachers were running the classrooms all by themselves. In 2019-20, RISE began working in the McKinley middle school as well as continuing work in the high school. The pandemic curtailed RISE’s ability somewhat, but RISE was still able to help over 300 students improve their academic work or test scores.
In the summer of 2018, RISE's staff also mentored McKinley's Advanced Placement Teachers at McKinley in six disciplines: human geography, calculus, chemistry, art, biology, and English literature. With the exception of English lit and art, which was a new offering, the McKinley students did significantly better on their AP exams in 2019 than the time before. Altogether, the student passing rate rose from 18% to 26% in the classes RISE had a hand in. Performance decreased in all the courses in which RISE did not assist. Thank you for supporting the teaching of these rigorous classes.
On the business side, for the fiscal year ending June 30, RISE raised about 4% more than the previous year: $124,000 from individuals and $62,000 from foundations, corporations, and other institutions. Thank you for allowing us to grow our programs!
